Drinking Card Games

Drinking and card games just go together. It's a known tradition. So we're sure you probably know your fair share of drinking card games to play whenever you're hosting pre-drinks. But if you find yourself playing the same drinking card games over and over, you may find it gets a little less fun each time. That's why we thought we'd introduce you to three new drinking card games today that you may not have played before!

Give and Take

This drinking card game is a great ice-breaker for any social situations. Be sure to think up some funny dares before starting to play this game.

How to play:

  • Choose a card dealer from your group of friends.
  • The dealer must hand out four cards to each person face up.
  • They must then make two rows of six cards face down on the table. The left row of face down cards stand for 'truth', the right row represents 'dare'.
  • The numbers on the cards also stand for how many seconds you need to drink if you cannot face the 'truth' or 'dare'.
  • The game begins by turning a single card from either the truth or dare row. The second card that's turned must come from the alternate row.
  • When a card is flipped, any player that has that card has to either complete a dare or answer the truth depending on which row the card came from or they have to drink for the number of seconds on the card.
  • Keep playing until one player has no cards left. They will then be crowned the winner!

Pyramid

Pyramid is a fantastic drinking card game made of luck and nerves of steel.

How to play:

  • Set the cards down in a pyramid format starting with 6 cards and ending with one.
  • Each player should then be given four face-down cards.
  • Players must then turn their cards over and take 5-10 seconds to memorise their cards and the order, making sure that no one else can see.
  • Each card in the pyramid is then flipped over, one at a time.
  • When a card is flipped, if a player has the same card they can choose someone to drink based on the number on the card. Players can also bluff at this point and pretend they have the card when they do not.
  • If you are told to drink by another player, you can either attempt to call their bluff or drink your assigned drink.
  • If you call someone's bluff, they must find the card in question in their pile in one go (this is where the memorising comes in).
  • If someone is correctly called out on their bluff, the bluffer must drink 2x the amount assigned. If they are incorrectly called out, the player who called bluff has to drink 2x the amount assigned and take back their card.
  • The game is played until every card in the pyramid is turned over! There's no winners or losers in this game technically - just those who have to drink more than others.

Bullshit

There's nothing more fun than calling someone out on their bluff than by shouting 'BULLSHIT'. This drinking card game requires a pack of cards and a solid poker face.

How to play:

  • With all players sat around a table, the dealer must divide the cards amongst the players in face down piles
  • The person to the left of the dealer must start the game by placing their aces in the middle. They are allowed to lie about how many aces they have, especially if they have 0.
  • If the players believe they are lying, they must shout out 'BULLSHIT'. The aim of the game is to get rid of all your cards, so if they were lying the punishment is to drink and to take all of the cards placed in the middle.
  • The next player must follow on from the last number, and the game continues until someone has no cards left.
  • Players are allowed to work together to call out a bullshitter but they cannot show each other their cards, meaning they are at liberty to lie about the cards they hold too.
  • The game continues until the player with no cards left is crowned the winner!

We hope these drinking card games have given you some more inspiration for your nights out ahead! As always, be sure to drink responsibly and always stop if you think you've had enough. Beer

As you may know, we are rather fond of the game Beer Pong. So much so that our entire website is dedicated to the game, and all our different variants of it. From Hen Party Beer Pong to Strip Beer Pong, we really do have a version of beer pong that sure to light up any night!

But did you know that there's also a whole world of beer pong variants we've yet to delve into? Here's a list of some of the best beer pong variants you can play at your next gathering:

Behind the Back

Ever wondered what happens when your ball bounces and you happen to catch it? Well here's a beer pong variant for you. If this event does occur during the game, you are granted another chance at hitting your opponents cups. However, there is one catch; you must throw the ball from behind your back. This can be quite challenging, but not impossible, so give it a go at your next beer pong tournament.

Death Cup

This is a simple yet brutal beer pong variant. Popular amongst many beer pong players already, the Death Cup refers to the cup of beer you must drink once an opponent manages to throw a ball into it. Once you begin to drink the contents of that cup, your opponents are allowed to use their turn to attempt to shoot their ball into the cup you're drinking.

If they do succeed in getting the ball into your cup, your team loses and it is game over!

Russian Roulette Pong

Now for a couple slightly longer beer pong variants. Both of these variants are sure to put a refreshing twist on the traditional beer pong.

  • Place five cups of water and one cup of vodka on the table in a circle formation. Different forms of alcohol can also be used if vodka is just not for you, but ensure all of the drinks look the same.
  • Ensure your opponent does not know which cup is the vodka cup when arranging your cups.
  • Take it in turns to take shots at the other players cups.
  • If your oppenent hits your vodka cup, you lose the game and must drink the contents of the cup. Make sure you don't go overboard with the amount of vodka when pouring the cups to make sure you can make it through the rest of the night!

Battleship Pong

Mixing two iconic games in one is always a winner for us. Make the game all the more intensive by playing two competitive games in one large-scale tournament.

  • Diving into teams of four and set up a 10 by 10 grid of cups on opposing sides of the table. (If you need extra cups, we've got lots in stock!)
  • In true battleship style, the teams must take it in turns to place their ships. The ships consist of 5x cups for an aircraft carrier, 4x cups for a battleship, 3x cups for a destroyer, 3x for a submarine and 2x for a patrol boat. These ships must be filled with liquor and the remaining cups must be filled with beer. Place your liquor ships wherever you like, but be sure to not place them diagonally.
  • Make sure you fill your cups with a smaller amount of liquor than beer to ensure you do not pass out before the end of the game.
  • Each team then takes it in turns to throw the pong balls at the other team's ships. If a ship is hit, the team opposing team must state that a ship has been hit and drink the liquor contents of the cup. The team that hit a ship is allowed to go again.
  • When a beer cup (a cup that's not part of a ship) is hit, the team that threw the ball must drink the contents of the cup.
  • The winners of the game are the team who sunk all of the opposing team's ships!

We hope you enjoy playing these beer pong variants as much as we enjoyed writing about them! As always, be sure to drink responsibly and stop when you've reached your limit. For more beer pong variants, take a look at our products here!

The philosophy of many drinking games may be 'the more the merrier', but this doesn't mean that your more intimate gatherings can't be just as fun! Next time you and your other half are sharing a drink, why not have a go at one of these fun drinking games designed for two?

Caps

botltle caps

This game offers simple, lighthearted fun for couples who've just settled down to enjoy a refreshing beer (or another bottled beverage of your choice). Sit facing your partner, with enough distance between you to offer a challenge.

  • Decant your drinks into a cup, and save the bottle caps.
  • Place the cups either in front of you or at your side, and take turns at aiming to throw your bottle cap into the other person's cup.
  • Each time the cap lands successfully, the person must remove it and take a drink.
  • To add variety, create additional rules for missing, or for each shot in scored in succession (e.g. two shots in a row = two sips on the second successful shot, three sips for three, and so on...)

NOTE: Please be careful when playing this game! Don't turn your night of romance into a night in A&E by swallowing the cap...

Film Cues

Variations of this game are a simple but often hilarious way to make watching your favourite films and TV shows even more fun! For this you can use a set of existing rules or even create your own, just make sure you have the list in front of you while watching, to make sure you remember how many drinks to take, and when!

The rules are simple, drink when:

  • A specific word/phrase/subject is mentioned
  • A specific action is taken/portrayed
  • A certain character appears on screen
  • Certain cinematic effects/themes are used (e.g. the movie theme music plays, bad CGI is used, the camera pans suddenly)

  • Double Down
  • Switch Sides
  • Party Pooper

Alphabet Memory Game

This is another game that can be altered by making your own rules or setting a unique theme. Simply tell a story or create a list, alternating between both players for each new letter of the alphabet!

  • Start by setting the scene! Either use an introductory sentence (I went to the shop to by a ____) or set a theme, such as films/food/songs for example, the more specific you are, the harder it will be.
  • This can be played as a memory game, a knowledge game or both! If it's simply a knowledge game, you will alternate between each person for every letter. If it's a memory game, the players must also remember their previous answers as well as those of the other player, adding a new word/title to the list on each turn.
  • Everyone someone makes a mistake (e.g. they forget the list or can't think of an answer), they must take a drink!

If you're hosting a rather large party, you may be wondering what the best group drinking games are. Of course, there are the standard card games, but if the group is too big this might get a little difficult to keep track of. Simple, quick and hilariously fun group drinking games are what you need for this situation.

To help ease your burden of hosting or being the allocated game master, we've put together our top 4 group drinking games. Perfect for any size group, these games will make your party a success in no time at all.

Medusa

Medusa Group Drinking Game

What you need:

To play this group drinking game all you need is yourself and a table full of shots.

How to play:

Everyone sits (or stands if there's too many of you) around the table filled with shots. All players start with their eyes closed and on the count of three, everyone must open their eyes and look at another player. If you're looking at someone who is not looking at you, you narrowly avoid a shot. However, if you find that you and another player are looking directly at one another, you must shout 'medusa!' and take a shot. You can keep playing this game until someone taps out or all the shots are gone.

Slip it in

Slip It In Group Drinking Game

What you need:

Your merry self, some phrases, a drink and the ability to keep a straight face.

How to play:

This group drinking game requires no more ability than being able to think quick and keep a straight face. You also need to be capable of remembering (so don't get too intoxicated yet!). To start this game, the hosts of the party must devise a series of random phrases before guests arrive. As they do arrive, each member of this group drinking game must be handed a phrase. For example, a phrase may be 'I'm not very fond of pickled eggs' or 'I didn't like baby Groot in Guardians of the Galaxy 2'. The more controversial and random, the harder the game gets.

After everyone has received their phrase, the game is in motion for the entirety of the night. All players must attempt to 'slip' their phrase into a conversation with no body noticing. If they say their phrase and five minutes pass without anybody noticing that they have said it, they get to choose someone to drink. If someone does call them out on it, then they have to drink!

Sixes

Sixes Group Drinking Game

What you need:

For this group drinking game you will need a dice and six cups of vaired sizes. For example, one could be a shot glass, one a wine glass, one a pint glass, one a teacup, one a bowl and one a small vase. As long as you can drink out of it, it works!

How to play:

Place the cups in a row and number them. Get your group of party-goes to gather around a take it in turns rolling the dice. Whatever number they get, they must drink from the corresponding cup (or vase)! You can fill the cups with whichever alcoholic drink you like. This is a great group game to get the party ball rolling.

Beer Pong

Beer Pong Group Drinking Game

What you will need:

The ultimate group drinking game, to play beer pong with a large group of people, you need 12 red solo cups, beer pong balls, a long table and plenty of beer. We would recommend getting it all in one place in one of our awesome beer pong kits, which you can find here

How to play:

Set up the table by placing two sets of cups in a triangular formation on the opposing sides of each table. You can then fill the cups to the brim with beer, and begin playing. Divide the group into two teams and choose a shooter from each team. The shooter then has to attempt to get one of the beer pong balls into the opposing team's cups. If they succeed, their rivals have to drink the contents of the cup! To include everyone in this group drinking game you can also require all members of the team to drink when their team looses a cup. This game continues until one team has lost all of their cups and accepts defeat.

Here at Beer-Pong we also stock a variety of beer pong variations, such as our Party Beer Pong set. This game is an ideal group drinking game for parties, as when a ball lands in a cup, that team also has to read our a party forfeit card. This is a great way to get the party in full swing!
