Our name is Maximus Decimus Beerpongius, commander of the thirsty armies of the North, General of the liquor legions, and loyal servant to the true party emperor, Marcus Hooraylius. Okay, let's not keep that up, but what we are presenting to you is a Gladiatorially-good drinking game that is Centurion (also known by the names of hundred's club, century clock, century club, century challenge and chicken of the north).  Centurion is the true test of endurance that requires 100%, and 100 shots!

What You Need:

2.5 litres of low volume beer or cider (alco-pops are another alternative)

1 person or more

1 shot glass per person

Clock/stopwatch

 How to Play:

1. It doesn't get much simpler than Centurion: either keep an eye on the time, or better yet set a stopwatch/timer to 100 minutes counting down, and for every minute that passes everyone playing consumes one shot. There are even online timers you can use that will sound a bell after each minute has passed. After 100 minutes has elapsed everybody playing will have consumed 100 shots - hence the name Centurion.

2. In order to mix the drinking games rules of Centurion up a bit, you can even play a slightly shortened 90-minute version along to a football match - or an 80-minute version along to rugby if you don't much fancy your chances!

Cards Against Humanity - the self-proclaimed "party game for horrible people" - is repulsive, tasteless, lowbrow, and exceptionally un-PC. It's also hilarious, and its simple rules and easy accessibility (not to mention all the headlines) are quickly establishing CAH as the go-to party game of our time.

Still, if you want to make your next game of Cards even MORE fun, we've come up with a few different drinking games that you can play alongside the main event. If there's one thing that makes crass black humour all the funnier, it's alcohol!

Cards Against Humanity Drinking Game (Basic Version)

  • At the end of each round, all players take a drink, except for a) the player who read out the last black card, and b) the player who won the last black card.

Cards Against Humanity Drinking Game (Advanced Version)

Same as the basic version, with the following additional rules:

  • Players may, at any time, get rid of any cards they don't want and replace them with new ones from the deck. However, if you choose to do this, you must take 1 sip for every card you exchange.

  • If the Card Czar (i.e. the person who read out the current black card) is torn between two or more answers, they may declare a 'tie'. The Card Czar selects the 2+ white cards that deserve to win; then, the players who submitted those cards must finish their drinks as quickly as possible. The first player to finish their drink wins the black card.

Cards Against Humanity Drinking Game (Chaotic Version)

Same as the advanced version, with the following additional rules:

  • At the end of each round, all players have the option to take an additional drink. If a player opts to pay this penalty, they may nominate another player; the nominated person may not replenish their hand back to 10 cards for the next round. Strategic use of this rule will leave your opponents with too few cards to make any decent jokes.

  • In the event of a 'Play 2' or 'Play 3' black card, players have the following option: once all players have submitted their white cards to the Card Czar (but before any of the cards have been read out), players may opt to take a drink. In return, this player may re-arrange the order of one opponent's cards, thus ruining their clever and hilarious answer.

  • When a black card is awarded at the end of a round, any player may immediately finish their drink in order to steal that black card from the winning player. If two or more people opt to finish their drinks, the first player to finish wins the black card.

The Police

You probably know the song Roxanne by The Police. Released as a single in 1978, its probably the band's best-known song aside from Every Breath You Take, the stalker anthem that countless people have since mistaken for an appropriate wedding song.

Roxanne is also the name of a drinking game that's been popular at house parties for quite some time now. You don't need any cards, dice, or anything like that to play the Roxanne drinking game - all you need is a drink in your hand and the song queued up.

Here's how to play the Roxanne drinking game - be careful, though, because this is a hard-drinking game with a Sting in its tail! (Sorry, couldn't resist.)

How to Play the Roxanne Drinking Game

  1. First, divide everyone in the room into two teams. (Don't worry about making sure the teams are the same size - it doesn't really matter.) Most people put all the women in one team and all the men in the other, but you can do it a different way if you prefer.

  2. Play the song Roxanne by The Police. It doesn't matter how you play it - use Spotify, YouTube, the CD if you've got it, whatever - but it needs to be loud enough for everyone to hear it.

  3. Every time the word "Roxanne" is sung, one team (usually the girls) must take a drink.

  4. Every time the words "put on the red light" are heard, the other team (usually the boys) must take a drink.

  5. This continues until the song is over and everyone is nice and drunk.

DRINK RESPONSIBLY! Occasionally, some bright spark will decide that it's a good idea to play both sides of this game at once, drinking on both "Roxanne" and "put on the red light". This is NOT RECOMMENDED IN ANY WAY, SHAPE OR FORM as you will basically be drinking non-stop for about three minutes.

To give you an idea of how much you'll end up drinking when you play this game, here are the lyrics to Roxanne in full (hat-tip to genius.com):

Roxanne, you don't have to put on the red light
Those days are over
You don't have to sell your body to the night
Roxanne, you don't have to wear that dress tonight
Walk the streets for money
You don't care if it's wrong or if it's right

Roxanne, you don't have to put on the red light
Roxanne, you don't have to put on the red light

(Roxanne) Put on the red light
(Roxanne) Put on the red light
(Roxanne) Put on the red light
(Roxanne) Put on the red light
(Roxanne) Put on the red light
Oh

I loved you since I knew ya
I wouldn't talk down to ya
I have to tell you just how I feel
I won't share you with another boy
I know my mind is made up
So put away your make up
Told you once I won't tell you again it's a bad way

Roxanne, you don't have to put on the red light
Roxanne, you don't have to put on the red light

(Roxanne) You don't have to put on the red light
(Roxanne) Put on the red light
(Roxanne) Put on the red light
(Roxanne) Put on the red light
(Roxanne) Put on the red light
(Roxanne) Put on the red light
(Roxanne) Put on the red light
(Roxanne) Put on the red light
(Roxanne) Put on the red light
(Roxanne) Put on the red light
(Roxanne) You don't have to put on the red light
(Roxanne) Put on the red light
(Roxanne) Put on the red light
(Roxanne) Put on the red light
(Roxanne) Put on the red light

Enjoy!

Sure, watching a movie is fun, but have you ever considered that movie drinking games might be more fun? Combine the best of both worlds and have a movie marathon while also hosting pre-drinks. So, grab the beer, grab the pillows and get ready to watch your favourite films in a way you’ve never seen them before.

The Hangover

For a night of movie drinking games, there’s no better film to start with. Hilarious and light hearted, playing the movie drinking game with the Hangover is a surefire way to get everyone in the party mood.

Rules

Drink when:

  • Stu mentions/touches his missing tooth
  • Alan copies what Phil is doing
  • You see the new Vegas landmark
  • Someone gets hurt
  • Neon lights are in view

The Lord of The Rings

The Lord of the Rings is on a slightly different note to the hangover, but now you’ve got the laughing out of the way, it’s time to take a trip to middle earth. Remember, this film is almost 3 hours long – so there’s plenty of time to get perfectly merry.

Rules

Drink when:

  • Frodo says ‘Sam’ at any point
  • You see the ring close up
  • Anyone says ‘precious’
  • Anyone speaks anything that is not English
  • You see the eye of Sauron

The Wolf of Wall Street

If you remember how many intoxicating substances are used in The Wolf of Wall street, we’re sure you’ll agree that this is a perfect film to play the movie drinking game with. However, try to not end up like Jordan trying to get into his car by the end of the film…

Rules

Drink when:

  • You see anyone naked
  • Anyone snorts something
  • Someone says the F word
  • You laugh

The Great Gatsby

If you read the great Gatsby in GCSE English, this is a great method of forgetting you ever resented it. The Great Gatsby is a film of incredible wonder, beauty and heartache. You’re sure to need a drink by the end anyway to drown your sorrow  – we’re just helping you get there quicker with the movie drinking game.

Rules

Drink when:

  • A new 21st Century song is played
  • Daisy makes things worse
  • Lana Del Rey plays
  • You see the T. J. Eckleberg sign (the spooky eyes)

Die Hard

It’s time to end on a true classic. Die Hard is perhaps a film you have seen far too many times already, but it’s still great every time, isn’t it? Get ready to see it like you’ve never seen it before, with the grand finale movie drinking game. (That’s if, after the first four films, you can still see)

Rules

Drink when:

  • Anyone is killed or injured
  • There is an explosion
  • John talks to himself
  • A walkie-talkie is used
  • You are reminded that it is Christmas

And there you have it: our guide to the best night in, being merry and playing movie drinking games. We have, however, worked it out, and altogether these films would take around 11 hours to watch in a row – so, I guess you better get started!
